Urmila Thakkar is a prolific young dancer who began her career with Shiamak Davar’s company and was one the leading instructors with the firm for almost a decade. Having trained thousands of students in Bollywood, Belly dance, contemporary, indo-contemporary, latin, hip-hop, jazz funk and many more styles, she was also one of the only 8 instructors who trained participants for the ‘Commonwealth Games 2006’ closing ceremony in Melbourne, Australia.
Urmila is also closely associated with the Film & TV industry of Mumbai, having worked with the likes of Kangana Ranaut, Sunny Leone, Badshah, Nikhil Chinappa, Raftaar, Dr. Zeus, to name a few, as an independent choreographer in advertisements and music videos. She has also managed and performed in a number of stage shows of repute, like IIFA, Zee cine awards, Film fare awards, Star Parivaar etc. Besides this, she has also been a choreographer on the hit reality Tv show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, season 8.
Urmila’s forte lies as much in choreography and performance, as in teaching. With her extensive span as a teacher, she has mastered the ability to work with students ranging absolute beginners to professional dancers. With her technical knowledge, she sets the perfect base for students with no experience of dance while gradually increasing the level of difficulty in her choreographic, pushing them towards perfection. Her classes are strenuous but full of energy, spunk and fun.
